PR: Most Excellent Superbat

Japanese culture: It’s everywhere. Even in your superhero comics:

This is from the sketchbooks for DC’s Final Crisis, which is some really big superhero comics event that launches this month. Opinions, anyone?

  1. I’m looking forward to the event but I haven’t picked up the sketch book yet. From what I’ve seen and read about the Japanese heroes though.. eh.

Most Excellent Superbat is part of a younger team that I’m… meh about. I just don’t like the smooshed nature of the concepts. Shy Crazy Lolita Canary, Big Atomic Lantern Boy (though he does look kind of cool), etc. It just doesn’t click with me.

On the other hand, there’s also an older team of heroes that I actually kind dig. They’re basically just nods and homages to your classic Japanese heroes like Ultraman and the like, but I still liked them more than the younger team.
