Death Note claims another victim

I know this sounds weird, but I didn’t get around to reading Death Note until yesterday. I picked up the first volume a while ago, but my husband got to it first and was rather lukewarm about it. And then it always seemed like there was something else to read first, so it just sat on the stack.

Last night my daughter was ordering some books online from Barnes & Noble and she needed to spend a few more dollars to get free shipping. How’s that for a good reason to buy a book? Death Note is pretty cheap, at $7.19 a volume for B&N members, but I didn’t want to buy vol. 2 without reading vol. 1, so I sat down and devoured it in about half an hour.

The story completely dragged me in. The entire premise, high school kid plays God, is fascinating, and I love the writing and the artwork. Now I understand what the fuss is about, and I’ll be glancing out the window frequently until the FedEx truck arrives.

Over at Hige Vs. Otaku, Hige had a similar reaction, and he likes Love Roma too.

I am also a very recent convert to Deathnote. After hearing a lot about it, I finally went out and bought vol. 1 about a week ago. And last night, while out waiting to meet friends, I wandered into a bookstore and purchased vols. 2-5. Just one of those stories that sucked me in immediately and fascinated me endlessly. I can only hope that they can maintain that level of intensity and entertainment for the rest of the series (or at least until the end of vol. 5, so that I won’t have wasted my money).

LOVE ROMA is my most favoritest book evar!

  3. According to a couple of people on this thread, Death Note takes a sharp dive in quality after vol. 7.

Adam, thx for the link — “Ciguatera” seems like a book i’d like. Too bad it’s not licensed.

Doesn’t it though? Death Note is like, an entire passion, riveting, compelling, awe-inspiring. All with an extraordinarily high IQ. ^^ Did you know they made a motion picture in Japan already???? It’s going to debut there on June 16, but knowing the high-strung officials that regulate that stuff it will probably enter the states in five years without fanfare (Dear Lord I hope I just jinxed them to not do that *crosses herself in prayer*). Thankyou for getting to know Obata-san’s masterpiece!! *sniffles* I’m so obsessed *blinks away tears of joy, smiles HUGELY* isn’t L the cutest!?
