About Brigid Alverson

Brigid Alverson has been reading comics since she was 4. After earning an MFA in printmaking, she headed to New York to become a famous artist but ended up working with words instead of pictures, first as a book editor and later as a newspaper reporter. She started MangaBlog to keep track of her daughters’ reading habits and now covers manga, comics and graphic novels as a freelancer for School Library Journal, Publishers Weekly Comics Week, Comic Book Resources, the Barnes & Noble Sci-Fi & Fantasy Blog, and Robot 6. She also edits the Good Comics for Kids blog at School Library Journal. Now settled in the outskirts of Boston, Brigid is married to a physicist and has two daughters.

I didn’t see a word about the fates of the American versions of Shonen Jump and Shoujo Beat. I assume the American SJ will have to cease publication also, but I wonder about SB.

I wonder what their losses were, because if the tankabon were selling really well, they could probably have kept the magazine running out of formality. I mean such a big name going on hiatus is like Britney Spears shaving her head. lol wut

  3. I doubt it’s selling REALLY well… in fact, I bet most people are just there for Claymore. Sure, when Claymore airs, their sales will definitely jump, but keeping an entire magazine for only one series that’s selling, they may as well kill it and completely redo it. I hate Monthly Jump for lack of good series in years, and I definitely welcome the death of MJ and looking forward to the new magazine. :3

Spanky: Actually, there’s no reason why the American Shonen Jump and Shojo Beat should fold because of this. They are run differently and draw stories from a number of sources, including Weekly Shonen Jump, which is still going strong.
